AddThis Newsletter: Address Book, More Menu, Firefox, Federal

Posted by admin under internet, living - No Comments

This month we introduced integration with Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo e-mail address books into the AddThis menu. When sending an e-mail, there is now an option to use your address book. To do this, click “Use Your Address Book”, select your e-mail provider, put in your credentials, and you’ll be presented with your address book. Just select the name and e-mail address of the person you want to share with and they’ll get put in the To: field of the e-mail.

Check out our blog post on address book integration for more information.

Redesigned More Menu

We’ve also launched a redesign of our more menu. The list of destinations that we were displaying was getting longer and longer so we wanted to create a more usable interface for looking through the list. This will also work nicely as we look to add more services in the future.

Read the blog post on the redesign of the more menu for more information.

The AddThis Firefox Plug-in

This month we were excited to announce AddThis for Firefox. It’s a plug-in which will put the orange plus sign that you’ve all come to know and love right at the top of your browser. So… whenever you see a Web site that you think is rad and want to bookmark it or share it with your friends, you can share it with just a couple of clicks.

If you’re a power sharer, like me, you’ll find yourself using this thing all the time. Oh… and the best part is that the plug-in works with any of the over 40 different destinations that AddThis can share with. Try it out and let us know what you think.

Download the plug-in today.

Establishing an Agreement with the Federal Government

This month, we established a terms of services agreement with the US General Services Administration (GSA). This will provide federal agencies with the ability to more freely use AddThis on their Web sites. The government provides so much great content on the Web. By using AddThis and making their content shareable, the federal government can make it easy for their existing users to help get the content disseminated to every corner of the Social Web and into the hands of United States citizens.

Read the blog post announcing the agreement for more info.

Featured Implementation: American Institute of Architects (AIA)

Every month, we want to feature one of our friends that have recently implemented AddThis. This month, we’ll take a look at the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA is “the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857.” They have a lot of great content on their Web site about the profession. It’s now all shareable with AddThis.

Here’s an example. It’s a page with resources on managing your architecture practice. With just a couple of clicks in AddThis, you can share this resource to every corner of the Social Web.

Meet our friend the blog search engine Lijit

Previously we highlighted JS-Kit and their powerful commenting system, this month we wanted to point you to our friends at the Lijit. They provide search-powered applications to individual online publishers and online publisher networks that increase page views and reader engagement, while optimizing search ad revenue. Put them on your Web site or blog.

SFIV’s Free Championship Mode Update!

Posted by admin under internet, living, news - No Comments

Championship Mode goes live for both PS3 and Xbox 360 on Friday, April 24. Championship Mode allows hot tournament action, and also records your matches to be displayed for everyone else to see.

it’s free!

The tournaments offer a new take on classic SFIV competition. They are broken out into 5 different levels, which means everyone can participate and find a good challenge without getting blown out of the water or bored. You score Grade Points (GP) for tournament wins, and as your GP total grows, you’ll become eligible to enter into more exclusive tournaments. Winning tournaments will also net you Championship Points (CP). The CP work basically like “prize money” up for grabs in the tournament. The higher the GP skill of the players in a particular tournament, the bigger the CP prize!

In true tournament tradition, character selection is double-blind. With the CP purse on the line, you won’t be able to see who your opponent has picked until you’ve both made your choices, and the battle is set to begin.

Read all about it on Capcom Unity.

vloud – a free online audio tool

Posted by admin under internet, living, media - No Comments

I am looking at a number of songs online, but when put in the local voice that even if the speaker to open the school compared to the greatest sound, still it was not. This is not the computer itself, but the problem songs. This will require major software used to do songs sound great tune. In fact, without the major software web Vloud can be relaxed to become the voice of song larger.

Vloud first web log (http://www.vloud.com/), then click the Browse button to upload songs to amend the document. Supporting MP3 and WAV format, file size should not exceed 10MB. Level selection in the above public address, a total of four level to choose from. Choose well after all, Vloud website will automatically upload files of songs sound bigger, without having to manually change (Figure).

Tip: use of web Vloud modify the size of the voice, we must stop before going too far, not to transfer the voice is too large, it will be very prone to noise.

Do We Really Need to Optimize Our Sites for Mobile Phones?

Posted by admin under internet, living, market - No Comments

If you have a website or blog, you probably already heard about the importance of optimizing it for mobile phones, creating a specific version for the iPhone and so on.

I won’t challenge the fact that mobile devices are more popular than ever, and that as we go forward more and more people will be using them to get online.

What I am not sure is if webmasters really need to worry about that trend when creating and managing their websites.

One possible scenario: within five years or so, when the number of users accessing your website via a mobile device will be big enough to matter, those devices will no longer need a special version of your website anyway.

If you think about it, the iPhone and similar smart phones are closing the gap from mobile phones to computers. You can already visit most websites with those devices without needing to load a special version of the site. The software is definitely there, and the hardware is arriving.

Maybe within five years most mobile devices will be able to load websites just like your desktop computer does today. If that is the case, webmasters will be able to keep focusing on building usable and accessible websites, and that is it. There will be no need to create special mobile versions because mobile devices will behave just like any other computer.

What do you think? (Via DailyBlogTips)

Keeping up with your day-to-day social web activities may seem like an impossible task, but there’s an Air app that’s making it easier. Enter Skimmer, a social web reader by Fallon, an ad agency in Minneapolis.

Skimmerâ„  is an Adobe AIR desktop application designed to streamline, beautify, and enhance the experience of participating in your most frequently used social networking activities. It improves upon your day-to-day interaction with multiple social networks, removing distractions and providing a rich experience that is particularly suited to multimedia content.

Skimmer’s primary view is an aggregated feed of posts from your friends on Twitter, Flickr™, Facebook®, YouTube, and Blogger. This feed content can be filtered by service, by group, or by keyword. Multimedia content in the feed is easily distinguished by the presence of thumbnails.

In Skimmer, you can see all your friends’ recent lifestreaming content on a single screen and customize how all of your content appears to your friends. And if you like, Skimmer will also supply embed code so you can put your customized profile on the web.
